so what do we have here… a swedish, extremely well travelled non political non religious man, who has spent some 20 years living in the uk. now i am starting to get irritated, on what i read and see and i am sure i am not alone. observations in everyday life covering everything between heaven and earth…all with a twinkle in the eye and perhaps not the best english in the world but hey, this is what we got so lets work with it… sunday, february 07, 2010 time to write... it is time to start writing again.... posted by slb ericson at sunday, february 07, 2010 | 0 comments tuesday, june 30, 2009 are the loonies on the loose....? it has never occurred to me before…are the loonies on the loose? found this very funny piece on the local…. from billyb, added at the forum on the local .... it seems to me that sweden in general ( stockholm specifically) has a more than average number of crazies on the loose. i have lived and worked in a few different countries, but sweden has significantly more nut jobs than anywhere else. during a average day i will pass by at least 10 people i would classify as seriously mad. in the last 4 days alone the specimens i have encountered have included: a guy running up the tunnelbana in just y-fronts and stopping to do star jump at stations a bloke offering me his magic hat in exchange for a can of beer a woman who says she is a elf and hides in trees a guy on the train having an argument with a pencil, snapping it, then crying that he killed it a old chap with childrens plastic windmills in his hair dancing to swan lake at 8am and many many more... i think maybe the heat has something to do with it being on the increase right now, but there is still a high amount of insanity all year round.. so..why is this? is there just a lack of men in white coats with big butterfly nets to round them all up? labels: lunatics , stockholm , sweden , the local posted by slb ericson at tuesday, june 30, 2009 | 0 comments monday, june 29, 2009 rip jackson?... no way...the show must go on... michael jackson dies…is this inadvertently the shrewdest business move ever… i was lucky enough to see him in concert not once but twice, and then i had the opportunity to meet him briefly in memphis some years back, when he was married to lisa marie presley. i was involved in a concert celebrating the life of elvis presley, which was held at the pyramid in memphis . it should be quite clear that jackson was weird; there is no doubt about that. whether it was due to the environment he was brought up in or the people he surrounded himself with, we shall never know, one prediction is that many stories will be written… i have been following the stories about his finances with amazement. a rumour…that is all we have to go with at the moment and the rumour is that he was some $500m in debt. ok that he had assets, but since he was not the sole owner of these assets, it is sometimes difficult to sell them to their true value, hence the need for a tour… having worked in the music industry for years, i worked out that michael needed to tour for about a year, playing huge stadiums 50,000+ in order to bring the bacon home. the last tour he did ended in controversy when the promoter sued him for “non-shows”, this was 10 years ago… we are talking a bout a younger jackson and then it was prescription drugs…so this time around there was never going to be a global tour, he physically could not have managed it. then we have the concert promoter, insuring only 10 out of 50 gigs…hello…who sat in on that meeting and took that decision? the signs are there that michael jackson will become a very wealthy man in his death. should the rumour about the 200 song library be true and if the frenzy continues with his current library could pay of all his debts without having to sell the atv music library and that is without having to take to the stage and sing his heart out for two hours… sad for his family and children…but could michael have taken another gruelling tour? i just hope that the kids will get some form of a normal life…definition of normal is unclear… labels: business , michael jackson , music posted by slb ericson at monday, june 29, 2009 | 0 comments blame it on the sunshine... the weather the last weeks has been terrible… almost everyday has consisted of clear blue skies and warm sunshine. the mercury has hit 27 degrees in the shade and at the back of villa sjovalla come two o’clock the court yard is a sizzling 45 – 50 degrees. we laze around, drink some cold drinks, and when the heat gets too much we pop off to the beach and have a swim. work goes on as normal and in fact this week i have been doing some rewiring in the attic just so the brining boys will have somewhere to sleep once they get here… not once have i heard on the radio or via the “googlebox” that we should stay indoors. so it comes as no surprise to me that now when the nice weather is coming over to the greatest britain that the government are going out with warnings… is there nothing left for the population to think about themselves? it rains and a warning goes out - risk for severe flooding, it is windy - stay indoors because the trees are coming down, sun shines – cover up the children and do not venture out… how many of these silly warnings are there from the uk government in a year? no wonder the public workers have the highest absence rate than that of the private sector, costing the tax payer £4 billion a year… if someone picked up the phone and called in telling their employer that it is to warm to work they would get the sack…and rightfully so… i am getting seriously worried for the reminder of my friends still living in the greatest britain, perhaps i need to organise a rescue mission before things go so down the tube that they stop thinking by themselves… hey… if the sun shines today…enjoy it, drive your 4x4 with the full a/c on…bring the degrees up a notch on the climate change, then with some luck, we might save it all by growing our own bananas soon, so there will be no need for imports… labels: gordon brown , sunshine , warnings posted by slb ericson at monday, june 29, 2009 | 0 comments friday, june 19, 2009 all not well at the helm... is it the lunatic who is running the asylum? i am of course referring to the ongoing row in formula 1. the biggest teams have threatened to pull out of the series for next year and set up a rival series. the background for this is the fact that the rule makers at the fia, federation internationale automobile, wants to put a budget cap on how much the teams can spend in a year. fota, which is the formula one teams association, and represents all but two teams, williams and force india , have said that this will not be workable, and i must say that i agree. if you decide to run with the budget cap you will get greater technical freedom to develop your car and in addition to this you could run your engines at a higher rev, thus creating a two tier system. imagine that manchester united were told that they would have a cap on how much they can spend on their players, tottenham decided that they did not work under the same cap, so when they meet manchester united would start with 1 – 0 up…it would be unworkable. likewise drawing on the same scenario, if all teams decided to start a new league, what could the premiere league do…call in scunthorpe united to fill the boots…i don’t think so…it come down to the fans…what the fans want to see is what the fans will see… i started to follow f1 back in 1987, i never miss a race and to my delight neither does mrs e. we are two different fans of the sport, she like to watch the racing and when it is over she switches off. i am more of a techno buff, when the racing stops i read my magazines, follow the development of the cars, i like the engineering side as much as i like the racing. you see i get excited when i read that a 2.4 litre v8 engine develops 780bhp at 18,000rpm, a car inclusive of driver weighs 605kg and accelerat
